Hardwork and resilience on the journey to homeownership

Yareni - Mounatin View-4 (1)

Meet Yareni, a dedicated mother of five who will soon be moving into her new home in Habitat Metro Denver’s Mountain View Community Homes development in Aurora. Originally from Mexico, Yareni has been living in Colorado for the past 20 years, working tirelessly to provide a better life for her family. Her story is one of resilience, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to her children.

Yareni currently lives with her three youngest children in an apartment that is far from ideal. The apartment has numerous issues, including pests, heating problems, and plumbing issues, which have made it difficult for her family to feel comfortable and safe. Despite these challenges, Yareni has persevered by building up her savings when possible and maintaining family traditions in their small space.

Yareni works long hours to ensure she can provide for her children and save for their future. She works as a housekeeping supervisor at a hotel and has two additional jobs as a janitor for a dealership and a restaurant. Her hard work and determination have paid off, and soon, Yareni and her children will move into a new Habitat home, a place they can truly call their own. Yareni is excited about the many possibilities that homeownership will bring. She looks forward to more space for her children, a safer environment, and the stability that comes with owning a home.

“I will gladly pay my mortgage because it’s for something that I will own. My children will have their own space and privacy. I will be very happy for having accomplished this,” Yareni shares.

For Yareni and her family, moving into their new home at Mountain View means a brighter future. Her children will finally have bedrooms of their own and a backyard to play in. Her two teenage sons and her youngest daughter are as excited as she is.

“My children will know they can
accomplish their goals because
they saw me do it,” said Yareni

“This changes a lot for my children. I know that, in the future, when they yearn for something, they will know that they can work hard for it. They will know they can accomplish their goals because they saw me do it,” says Yareni.

When the family moves into their new home, they will still live close to Yareni’s older children in Aurora, and Yareni is thrilled to remain in the community where she has spent many years. She looks forward to hosting family gatherings in her new kitchen, a space where she can cook and create memories with her loved ones. Yareni is especially grateful for Habitat’s program, which has made her dream of homeownership a reality. “I am very grateful for Habitat’s program. I have always dreamed of having a home,” she said.

TThe journey to homeownership has not been easy for Yareni. Balancing multiple jobs and completing the required sweat equity hours was a significant challenge. However, her story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact that stable housing can have on a family’s future. As she prepares to move into her new home at Mountain View, Yareni is filled with hope and excitement for what lies ahead. She is proud to have achieved her dream and looks forward to the many possibilities that homeownership will bring for her and her children
