Credit Unions Building Community in Denver

Team members at BellCo Credit Union helped a homeowner repair their siding as part of a Habitat Metro Denver home repair project.

“Our team thoroughly enjoyed getting our hands dirty,” said Jim Johnston after a day of volunteering with Habitat Metro Denver’s home repair program.

Johnston, a senior marketing manager at Bellco Credit Union, and his team helped a longtime homeowner by repairing siding to ensure the home will be dry and secure throughout the year.

“We recognize how important the home repair program is for keeping people safe in their homes,” he said.

In 2023, Habitat Metro Denver is excited to launch the Credit Unions Building Community initiative, a program that invites credit unions to partner with Habitat for Humanity to preserve affordable homes.

BellCo Credit Union, Blue Credit Union, Westerra Credit Union, and OnTap Credit Union have committed their volunteer time and financial support to the home repair initiative.

“It’s powerful to see how financial support, coupled with dedicated volunteers, makes such a difference in the lives of homeowners,” Johnston said.

While Habitat is best known for building new homes, our home repair team partners with existing homeowners to make critical exterior home repairs, such as updating roofs, replacing windows and doors, and fixing porches.

Credit Unions Building Community is founded on a commitment to support individuals and families – as well as entire communities. By making critical home repairs when they’re most needed, the partnership will help ensure longtime homeowners can continue living in safe, decent, affordable homes and avoid being displaced.
