Volunteer Spotlight – Nancy Mills

“I’m very happy I have time to volunteer on a regular basis,” Nancy Mills says with a smile.

Nancy began volunteering regularly on the construction sites, working a couple days a week since October of 2015. She keeps coming back because “everyone is so encouraging and willing to take the time to train me… they’re really nice and helpful.”

In addition to volunteering on the construction sites, Nancy also works at the office a few hours a week helping our accounting department with mailings. “Everyone at the office is so friendly and volunteering makes me feel productive,” says Nancy.

Volunteering on a regular basis, even just a few hours a week, is great for comradery says Nancy. “When you volunteer on a regular basis, you get to know the construction supervisors and regular volunteers.”

Nancy is a Colorado native and first encountered the work of Habitat for Humanity at a friend’s home dedication 20 years ago. She wanted to get involved then, but just didn’t have the time. After working on the build sites and going to the home dedications of houses she’s worked on, Nancy thinks everyone should go to at least one home dedication.

Are you thinking about becoming a regular volunteer? Nancy says you should do it if you have time and “It doesn’t matter if you’ve ever done construction before, because they’ll train you.”
