Since 1996, a unique and inspiring partnership has flourished between Habitat Metro Denver and the Holy Hammers, a group of Lutheran churches. Over the years, the Holy Hammers have raised significant funds for Habitat’s mission and volunteered countless hours to help build homes in partnership with hardworking families. This collaboration is a powerful example of faith in action—showing how communities can come together to make a lasting impact.
One of the key ways the Holy Hammers have supported Habitat is through fundraising. Over the years, they have hosted creative events events, such as a gala and the Hustle for Habitat fun run, whose proceeds directly supported the construction of new homes. Events like these creatively engaged members of the community in Habitat’s mission, and the funds generated have ensured more families in Metro Denver have access to affordable housing.
The Holy Hammers have also made an incredible impact through hands-on volunteering. Congregation members roll up their sleeves, don their work gloves, and get outside of their comfort zones as they join Habitat staff to help build homes from the ground up. Members of the Holy Hammers contributed more than 1300 volunteer hours in 2024! From framing walls to painting siding, these volunteers are an essential part of Habitat for Humanity’s mission.
2024 marked a special milestone for the Holy Hammers and their partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver – they raised over $100,000 to support Habitat’s mission! The funds were used to build Augustana Homes, an 8-unit housing development that will be sold to local families with affordable mortgages. These homes were built in partnership with Augustana Lutheran Church, one of the founding members of the Holy Hammers.
As we look back on nearly three decades of collaboration between the Holy Hammers and Habitat Metro Denver, it’s clear that this partnership has not only transformed the lives of countless families but has also deepened the faith and commitment of the volunteers. Every nail hammered, every coat of paint applied, and every dollar raised has been a testament to the values of generosity, compassion, and service.
