Thrivent’s 15-Year Partnership Helps Build Homes & Hope

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver and Thrivent Financial celebrated our 15-year partnership this summer with the time-honored tradition of blessing a new home.

Habitat site blessing ceremonies are an opportunity to unite staff, supporters and volunteers in sharing well wishes with the future homeowners. For many, they also provide sacred moments of prayer and reflection. While the COVID-19 pandemic changed the format of our July site blessing at Swansea Homes, the tradition remains a vitally important rite of passage.

“Although this event looks a little different this year, it is still a milestone worth celebrating,” shared Mitch Lynn, Thrivent’s Denver-area community engagement leader. “We look forward to getting back on the site, whenever that may be, and helping people in our community build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable housing.”

Thrivent has long partnered with Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country. In 2006, the financial support nonprofit launched its “Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity” alliance, for which it partnered with 265 national Habitat affiliates to finance and build new homes. More than a decade later, that partnership holds strong.

For each Thrivent home build, the financial services company contributes up to 50% of the funding. It then works with local churches and challenges them to raise the additional home costs.

“I would like to thank Thrivent for their sponsorship of the 2020 Faith Build and their continued support of Habitat Metro Denver,” says Habitat Metro Denver CEO Heather Lafferty. “Together, we are creating positive, permanent change in the community.”
