Samantha & Darren: Future Habitat Homeowners

Samantha and Darren want nothing more than to keep their two young daughters healthy, happy, and safe. In a year plagued by a pandemic, ensuring their family stays safe has been harder and more stressful than ever before.

“It’s beyond important to have our own space that we can control and keep clean,” shares Samantha. “It feels like a matter of protecting my kids and limiting their exposure… we’re trying to do everything in our power to keep our kids safe.”

Samantha and Darren and their daughters (2 and 4 years old) are currently living in a single-room basement in an extended family member’s house. They are grateful to have a place to live where they can save up money and plan for their future, but the cramped living space in a shared house has been challenging.

Samantha and Darren have tried to make the most of their space by creating dividers within the room so their kids have an area to play. But there’s only so much they can do, and for the last couple of years the family of four has had to make do with all sharing one bedroom.

Samantha and Darren are thrilled to become Habitat homeowners this year and to purchase a 2-bedroom condo in south Denver.

“We’re so excited to spread our wings and not be confined anymore. The girls will finally have their own space and their own room.”

Samantha and Darren have been trying to find a way to become homeowners and remember the exact moment they first learned about Habitat.

“We started looking into buying a home about a year ago when we were also working on our debt and credit scores,” Samantha recalls. “We were scrolling through YouTube and a video mentioned Habitat… that one night changed everything.”

Samantha and Darren know that life will be more stable once they purchase their home and finally have a place of their own.

“Our kids will have stability and a safe place to sleep at night… we will all have peace of mind. Life can be more predictable.”
