ReStore Upcycling

You never know what kinds of unique items you might find at a Habitat ReStore.  And savvy shoppers are starting to realize that just because certain items might look worn, they’re actually “diamonds in the rough”.  These items are just waiting for the right person to come along, put in a little elbow grease, and upcycle them into something special.

Long-time ReStore staff member, Alice Goble, and her husband started upcycling furniture from the ReStores as a hobby a few years ago.  What started as a fun creative outlet has turned into a regular activity for the couple.

“We’ve probably done thirty pieces of furniture now,” shares Alice. “It’s been fun to learn how to identify items with potential and get creative with how to update them.”

With inventory changing daily at the ReStores, Alice is constantly inspired by unique pieces of furniture that have potential. “I look for furniture that made with quality materials and interesting architecture,” Alice explains. “If I see an old wooden chair with stained upholstery, but it has curvy legs and good lines, I can see the potential in upcycling it.”
