“It’s so personally rewarding to be a Regular Volunteer.”

Scott Kramer is a Regular Construction volunteer who dons his blue hard hat on a weekly basis to work with our Home Repair crew. He’s been volunteering with us since 2015 because, “It seemed like fun to try.”
When we talked with him about why builds with us week after week, he outlined compelling reasons to regularly volunteer with Habitat.

#1 = “It’s a great way to spend a day and you meet really nice people. It’s a pleasure to work on these sites.”
We wholeheartedly agree that Habitat people are great. 😃
Seriously though, volunteering alongside staff, other volunteers, and partner families – who all envision a world where everyone has a decent place to live – is a great way to spend a day.

#2 = “Once you get into a routine of volunteering with Habitat, you look forward to it each week. Because you know you’re going to get outside, you’re going to get some fresh air, you’re probably going to have a fun time doing it.”
WARNING: Volunteering with Habitat could become habit-forming. If you, or someone you know, suffers from addiction to fresh air and volunteering, please contact us immediately so we can help them become a Habitat Regular.

#3 = “Every day is a challenge because you never know what you’re going to run into on a home repair site.”
Repairing homes means every worksite is different and every project has its own quirks that have to be factored into the job. For people who think variety is the spice of life and find satisfaction from problem-solving, volunteering with Habitat Home Repair is for you.

#4 = “I’ve always liked working with my hands. And this is something that I’ve always really wanted to do and never had time to do it when I was working full time. So once I started working part time, I decided it was time to do it – while I still can!”
Don’t let your dreams just be dreams – Seize the day and sign up to volunteer! Regularly volunteering with home repair is a great way to make the most out of what your mind and body can do.

#5 = “I enjoy the people we work with and it’s very cool to see the homeowners and how we’re working together to make their lives in their homes more stable and livable. It’s nice to see the gratitude they show.”
Every volunteer makes a difference at Habitat. When you volunteer on a regular basis, it’s much easier to see the impact of your work. Whether you helped replace a window, put siding on a house, or even cleaned up nails from another crew – you’re helping to build a world in which everyone has a decent, affordable place to call home.
