Celebrating Habitat AmeriCorps!

We are thrilled to celebrate the  AmeriCorps members who have joined our team this year!

Colorado Legislative Session (1)

With 15 AmeriCorps now on board, our team has grown to become one of the largest in the country, and we couldn’t be more grateful. These incredible AmeriCorps members truly embody the spirit of our mission, working tirelessly to help Habitat homeowners build a better future for themselves and their families.

Whether they’re working in our production shop, out on a construction site, renovating homes, or in our office, our AmeriCorps members play an essential role in our mission.

Let’s take a moment to meet our current AmeriCorps members.

Donald Dirnberger (he/him)
Construction Crew Leader
Production Shop

I am doing a continuation of my family’s legacy of helping others. HFH has been a part of my family almost since the beginning here in Colorado. I am proud to do this for others.

Meeting the new AC and having the chance to become friends and family with them.
That we are all put here for a reason our task is to discover that and then go for it.

This is Donald’s 3rd year of service with Habitat Metro Denver.

Zoë De La Rosa (they/them)
Construction Crew Leader
Home Preservation

I wanted to do a service term to learn new skills and be able to help people. Something I have enjoyed most about my service so far is getting to connect with like-minded people and form new relationships. Throughout my service, I have been able to develop my leadership skills and confidence.

This is Zoë‘s  2nd year of service with Habitat Metro Denver.

Marsha Blackman (she/her)
Homeowner Advocate
Affordable Mortgage Solutions

I wanted to be of service to people who are in need of housing.  I wanted to help people experience the joys of living in a home with family and/or loved ones. During my service so far, I enjoyed working with an amazing AmeriCorps and Habitat team.  I enjoyed hearing the testimonies from families who have been accepted for housing, and the smiles on their faces when they received their key to their new home.

I have learned to never take things for granted, and to always be appreciative of family, friends, loved ones, and people who have the heart to serve and see you achieve your goals, and dreams.

Erin Roeckl (she/her)
Construction Crew Leader
Production Shop

I wanted to do service with Habitat, first and foremost, to live out the mission statement and contribute to the availability of affordable housing. Secondly, I wanted to learn practical skills about building and leading teams of people. I was looking for a job where I would have an impact while not sitting at a desk just quite yet.

I have enjoyed all the skills I have learned and the people I have met. Having many future homeowners in the shop has been awesome these past couple of weeks. It has been especially rewarding to see future neighbors and friends make plans for their new homes together!!

I have learned so much this term about building, leading, and about making real connections with people, even upon just meeting. My fellow Americorps team has also taught me so much about how to work hard and stay positive towards the main goal we are all here trying to achieve. Even skills that seem increasingly small I am proud to have learned, such as laying out plates, driving the forklift, and becoming a leader/active listener.

Emanuel Cho (he/him)
Construction Crew Leader
New Construction

I wanted to do this service to try something different, get to meet new people and learn some types of leadership skills.

The people I’ve met and meeting. Volunteers, the people who continue to keep coming to help out, and my new and great friends AmeriCorps.

There’s a much bigger community of people, so much that people are looking forward to volunteer and always say “it is always booked.” A lot more people care than I expected.

Natalia Girardi Muncy (she/her)

New Construction

I wanted to do a service term with habitat to try something new. I have learned so many new skills from construction to life lessons.

Andrew Rossi (he/him)
Home Repair Client Coordinator
Homeowner Services

After volunteering with several different Habitat affiliates over the years, I wanted to contribute to the organization in a more full-time capacity. Since the beginning of my term, I’ve really enjoyed interacting with homeowners and hearing about their stories.

Alyssa Sutanto (she/her)
Construction Crew Leader
New Construction

I wanted to work with Habitat to learn new skills and work with my hands after being in school for so long. So far, I’ve enjoyed learning about the processes that go into constructing a house and meeting a wide array of people along the way.

Garret Young (he/him)
Construction Crew Leader
New Construction

I wanted to get out of my home state and explore Colorado while working for a good cause.

The people have been fantastic, fellow AmeriCorps and staff. More construction knowledge and house building knowledge.

Alexis Pelkey (she/her)

I wanted to do a service term with Habitat to learn hard skills, see the ins and outs of running a non-profit, and to serve the people of Denver! !

I wanted to so a service term with Habitat for Humanity to learn new skills and explore a new city. So far, not only have I gained practical construction skills, but I’ve gained so much than that by getting to know our daily volunteers and homeowners.
