Homeowners Sierra and Samuel

For ten years, Sierra and Samuel called Denver home—but never the same address for long. Rent hikes and cockroach infestations kept them moving from one apartment to another.

When their daughter, Maple, joined their family, they started dreaming more seriously about a home where she could grow up with stability.

That dream is now becoming reality as the couple buys first home with Habitat Metro Denver, at our Augustana Homes community in Southeast Denver.

“This is more than a house,” Sierra shares. “It’s a chance to invest in ourselves. We won’t have to worry about a rent hike. We’ll have the stability to know what our payment will be.”

When Sierra first heard about Habitat, homeownership felt impossible. But in just one week, she and Samuel worked quickly to gather the paperwork they needed. They applied, and were accepted. Then came the partnership hours they completed with Habitat: painting exteriors, installing doors, landscaping—tasks they’d never imagined doing as first-time homebuyers. And all of these tasks were done on their future home, as well as the homes of their next-door neighbors.

“We met two or three of our neighbors while building,” Sierra says. “We were all learning together.”

Sierra dreams of cooking in a kitchen big enough for more than “one butt,” watching Maple play in the backyard, and walking to the park next door. For their family, this home isn’t just walls and a roof—it’s the foundation for a future filled with stability, memories, and hope.

“I am very grateful,” shares Sierra. “Habitat has been doing this for so long for so many families that it’s like being part of a legacy. It feels good.”
