Volunteer of the Month: Don Dirnberger | Denver Nonprofit | Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver

Volunteer of the Month: Don Dirnberger

After serving with us for four years, Don has become a tireless ambassador for our mission. His legacy will continue long after his service concludes.

Volunteer of the Month: Don Dirnberger
If you’ve volunteered in Habitat Metro Denver’s Production Shop over the last 3 years you’ll probably recognize this month’s Volunteer of the Month, Don Dirnberger!

Don joined Habitat Metro Denver as an AmeriCorps member in 2021, spending a year supporting us with new construction and accessory dwelling units (ADUs) before moving into the production shop, where he spent the last three years making significant contributions. But Don’s service didn’t start with Habitat. Before joining Habitat, Don served multiple times with the Peace Corps and worked on disaster recovery efforts throughout Central America.

Don is deeply passionate about Habitat’s mission, homeowners, volunteers, staff, and the work we do. During events, you’ll find him lending a hand in any way he can. It’s not unusual to find Don grilling hot dogs for everyone to enjoy.  He brings heart and energy to everything he does.

Don is also a strong advocate for Habitat’s global work in other countries. He has participated in two Global Village builds in El Salvador and Brazil, and is excited to volunteer with Habitat in Nepal this fall. He values the transformative power of these experiences and hopes to inspire others on similar journeys.

“Find a way to go on a Global Village build,” shares Don. “There are many countries that need volunteers. You will have memories to enrich your life and the lives of others.”

Don wishes to share these parting words about his service:

“The last four years have been a truly great and wonderful experience for me. I wish to thank each and every one of you for your giving of the most precious gift of all: Time.

Take under your wing the next generation of Core [Volunteers], AmeriCorps, daily volunteers, and homeowners; together, we build communities.

Last but not least, always be an ambassador for the values which have made Habitat for Humanity an organization bigger than any one person, making a difference. We are humans living on a small blue marble – may we share our humanity.”

Thank you, Don, for all your contributions over the past four years of service with AmeriCorps! Your impact has truly made a difference in our community.
