Meet This Year’s AmeriCorps Team

Habitat Metro Denver’s new home builds, renovations, and repairs would not be possible without the dedicated service of our AmeriCorps. These team members commit to a year of service where they learn the ins and outs of Habitat for Humanity while serving as leaders on Habitat’s construction sites and behind the scenes.

Below, our current AmeriCorps members share why they decided to join us for their year of service, and how they feel inspired to make an impact.

“I decided to do a year of AmeriCorps because I wanted to do something meaningful that had a positive impact on the world and people’s lives in it. I most enjoy the interactions I have with everyone here, from staff to core volunteers to homeowners; I feel it is a very positive and supportive place to be”.

Tess Cassol-Pawson – Construction Crew Leader, New Construction

“I was very interested in working for Habitat and recognized that AmeriCorps made that dream accessible. I recognize that making home ownership more accessible to my community means making way for more people to thrive and flourish in their lives. I also love working with daily volunteers. They bring so much to the table and it’s incredible to get to involve so many different people in this work”.

Mollie Strawn – Construction Crew Leader, New Construction

I joined AmeriCorps because after graduating college I wanted an opportunity to learn new skills and take time to figure out what would come next for me. I am enjoying the amount of knowledge I am gaining and the many different people I am able to meet and learn from”.

Zoe Delarosa – Construction Crew Leader, Home Preservation

“I joined AmeriCorps to continue my service for my fellow man by doing a worthwhile endeavor. Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver treats AmeriCorps Members, volunteers, staff, and CORE volunteers with respect and goes above and beyond to be inclusive”.

Don Dirnberger – Construction Crew Leader, Production Shop

I believe in Habitats’ mission because I share that same mission and Habitat is an amazing place to feel like you are accomplishing your mission. What I enjoy most about my AmeriCorps term with Habitat Metro Denver, I have to say a few things and they would be the people I am surrounded by, the amazing city/mountains and the amount of knowledge I am gaining here is priceless to me

Ryan Torres – Construction Crew Leader, Accessory Dwelling Units

I joined AmeriCorps because I wanted to explore the nature of Colorado and serve a cause that I care about. I think Habitat helps people build stable lives for themselves and their families”.

Emily Farmer – Homeowner Services Coordinator

“I joined AmeriCorps because it sounded fun and interesting, and a great way to dip my toe in the nonprofit world. The people are great, the work is varied, and I’ve learned a lot of new skills”.

Emma Lavoie – Construction Crew Leader, Home Preservation

Jacob Tilstra – Construction Crew Leader, New Construction
