Homeowner-stories

Michelle

Michelle is a hardworking mom of three kids—ages 12, 17 and 19.

They have endured lots of transition over the years. Before moving into their current apartment, Michelle and her kids moved around between motels and family and friend’s houses.

“The motel was just one room with a kitchenette and bathroom,” describes Michelle. “Everyone had a bed, but four people in one room was tough.”

Michelle was relieved to find their current 2-bedroom apartment, but the rent keeps rising and is currently absorbing more than 50% of Michelle’s income. “One paycheck doesn’t cover our rent,” Michelle explains.

“I sometimes have to ask my kids to help me pay rent. So it’s tough.”

Michelle has worked hard to achieve some stability for her family. She recently heard about Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver and was ecstatic when she was selected to purchase a Habitat home.

“It will be amazing to have a mortgage I can actually afford, and not have to stress about rising rents.”

With financial security, more space for the family, and a sense of stability on the horizon, Michelle and her kids are excited to create new memories together in their Habitat home.

“There are no words for how much I appreciate people helping me achieve something that I’ve been dreaming of for years. I can’t wait to have a place of our own where we can settle down and be a family.”
