I’ve always loved learning, but it was hard to get involved in school activities because I was constantly moving from home to home because of financial hardships.

It was hard for me to have a sense of belonging when every school was temporary, and so were my friends. In total, I have now gone to 8 different schools. If it weren’t for Habitat, the number of schools would be in the double digits.

I’m definitely grateful to Habitat for giving my family the opportunity to have a permanent home. I don’t have to worry about my siblings going through the same struggle that I did of having to move and change schools.

Because of Habitat…

… I’ve been able to stay at one high school, and that’s been great because I’ve been able to take honors and AP classes and challenge myself.

I found my sense of belonging, and I’ve made great friends.

Everyone in my family is less stressed now that we don’t have to worry about rent going up, or having to move again. It has allowed me to concentrate on school. For me, I know that a college education is the best way for me to find a career and have some stability.

I’m extremely proud to share that I will be attending college this fall on a full ride scholarship to Yale University. I’m the first person in my family to be attending college, so this means a lot to all of us.

I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who supports Habitat because it’s a program that has changed my family’s life, given us stability, and hope for a brighter future.
